Where: Florence, Italy
When: February 9, 2012
With: Rachel and Loren
Next stop on the wander - leather shopping. And where better to stop than Florence's premier leather school to have a look around. The interesting thing is that the Scuola del Cuoio is housed in the former dormitories of the friars of the Basilica di Santa Croce - an interesting transition. The Basilica is where Michelangelo is buried, but we just went to see the leather.
This school has been around for a really long time. Now, you can go in and watch them actually beading bags and stitching purses together. Not surprisingly, everything was a wee bit out of our price range.
We debated for a second going into the Basilica after our tour of the school. But I think the idea of owning soft, beautiful leather for a reasonable price had slipped into our brains, and we just wanted to head out for some shopping. So for now, no Basilica, it's time to shop for Florentine leather.

The big square in front of the Basilica.
