8th Anniversary of my 21st birthday

I'm only two months late, but just had a couple of photos to throw up here for my birthday.

Maintaining the self-centered, childlike spirit of birthdays, I celebrated this year for 3 days straight. Even in my last year of my twenties and living in a foreign country, I thoroughly enjoyed each and every day.

Day 1 celebrations, or Groundhog's Day Eve, resulted from Dave having to go to New York for a job interview on my actual birthday. So we had pre-birthday celebrations complete with a pirate cake and flowers. Meal of choice - McDonalds...classyy. Nothing has changed since my 12th birthday.

My actual birthday (Day 2) was lovely. In our office (maybe it's an English thing too?), it's tradition that you actually bring cakes for the team on your birthday - kind of like providing the cake at your own party when you're little. Therefore, it was pirate cake all around, complete with a day full of pirate jokes. The best one I heard: Where does a pirate keep his buccaneers? On his buccan-head!

I was taken out for a delicious lunch in Borough Market (my first fried pork sandwich). And in Dave's absence, my friend Jad was my ideal stand-in date, taking me out for birthday dinner (not McDonalds). We went to a place called the Meat Liquor - best burgers I've had in London. The downside was the hour wait in the freezing cold to get in - near the end of the wait, Jad was threatening to never speak to me again. However, once we were warm inside, the meal was so delicious, he luckily forgave me almost instantly. :-)

For Day 3, we had a proper Friday night out on the town. My workmates did a lovely job of putting together a fabulous evening. We went wine tasting at a little place called Vinopolis. When you get there, you get a bunch of vouchers that you hand in to sample all the wine. The wine is grouped at different tables by region. So end up wandering around the world, drinking wine.

For my first birthday abroad, I had a wonderful time. Now, to start thinking about how to celebrate the big 3-0 next year...start booking your tickets over now.
