Tour Eiffel

What: Eiffel Tower, Paris, France
When: November 5th, 2011
Who: Dave

As I said earlier, seeing the Eiffel Tower in person was very surreal. I think you just see so many pictures of it your whole life that when you actually see it for real, it's a very surreal experience. Crossing the river, we went on a bit of quest to figure out how to get there. At least it was obvious to tell we were headed in the right direction.

Finally we made it! I was shocked how HUGE the bottom of it was.

We jumped in line to buy tickets, which wasn't too long at this point in the night (it was about 9pm). Plus, you can't get bored when you look up and see this as your view.

The first thing you do after getting tickets is take a VERY old elevator up to the second level in the base. You are so high, but still have so far to go. You get some lovely views of Paris, nonetheless.

Afterwards, you get in another line to take a (thankfully) modern elevator all the way to the top. From there, you can walk around the entire top of the tower, looking at all of Paris.

We tried to take some pictures, but my camera's broken focus and another tourist's inability to use my camera made for some fuzzy pictures.

We strolled around at the top for awhile, but a young child's attempt to spit off the top on a windy night ended poorly for me and some of the romance was a bit lost. We decided to head back down to the 2nd floor, after which we tried to take the stairs to avoid the crowds of people also heading down.

 Still a ways to go:

Back down at the bottom:

It was really difficult to walk away and not keep turning back for more pictures.

So rather than fight it, we stopped in the Jardins du Trocadéro on the other side of the river to sit and look at it for a little bit.

And to cap it off, every hour, the tower lights up with flashing white bulbs. It was really pretty.
