L'Hôtel Nationale des Invalides (Napoleon's Tomb)

What: L'Hôtel Nationale des Invalides (Napoleon's Tomb)
When: November 6th, 2011
Who: Dave

We decided that for our final activity in Paris, we would pay respect to the little guy and go see Napoleon's tomb.

This guy cracks me up. He had such a classic case of LMS (little man syndrome), everything built in his honor was huge and over the top. This, of course, includes the building that houses his remains.

Walking towards the building, there are large greens where the local are all playing soccer and rugby. It was a gorgeous afternoon, so it was nice seeing all the activity of the locals.

After the long walkway, we arrived at the front gates, complete with cannons.

Originally, this place was built as a hospital and retirement home for war veterans. It also houses a bunch of historical French military equipment and monuments.

Finally, the tomb. It was gigantic and lavish and all that you would expect out of a guy like Napoleon.

Napoleon also had all his brothers, favorite generals and son buried in the rotunda with him.

We didn't have much time in there since it was getting later in the day, but was definitely an interesting museum to see.
