Where: Washington, DC
When: May 29, 1997
With: Class field trip
With all the museums in DC, what would the city be without some art? And the prominent art museum on the Mall is the National Gallery of Art. Founded in 1937, it has two components: the original western building, containing classical pieces of art, and the newer eastern building, containing modern works of art. There is also a prominent sculpture garden alongside of it as well.
Again, this is one of those sites that I wish I had paid a little bit more attention to. I don't remember too much about this visit, and I should probably go back the next time I visit DC. However, here's the couple of pictures that I took (on film!), starting with the entrance to the building, located at the northeast corner of the Mall.
It looks like we spent most of our time in the more modern eastern building. I do remember being wildy intrigued that underneath these glass shapes poking up from the ground was a cafeteria.
And then my wildest dreams came true and I got to see what was underneath them. So funny what can intrigue a middle school student.
Intrigued enough to make Suzannah, Rachel, Jamie and Loren pose underneath it.
Looks like I need to take another trip to the National Gallery of Art!
