Home-cooked Sunday Roast

When: June 24, 2012
Where: London, England
With: Camilla, Jad, Tomm, Nick, and Emma

The English love their traditions. And one of their favorites is the Sunday Roast. Generally eaten sometime between lunch and dinnertime on a Sunday, the meal will always consist of a roasted meat, potatoes, and roasted vegetables.

The type of meat is debatable depending on who you talk to. Some insist lamb, others beef, most chicken. The potatoes are always roasted, never mashed. And while the vegetables may vary, they will usually include the root favorites - carrots and parsnips.

Now, I've had a couple Sunday Roasts at the local pubs, but apparently it was complete sacrilege that I had never had a home-cooked one. Therefore, Camilla very kindly decided it was high time she cooked one for me. The others were incredibly willing bystanders in this event.

Our feast included roast chicken, potatoes, parsnips, carrots, and green beans. For desert, we had a berry crumble with homemade custard on top. Camilla did a fabulous job of cooking. Plus, she let me break the wishbone!

Afterwards, we all enjoyed the rest of the rare sunny Sunday on Camilla's balcony drinking more wine than we should when we had work the next day.

Delicious first Sunday roast! Next time, I'll need to experiment and host, though I am seriously lacking in a balcony as awesome as this.
