679. Mystic Seaport

Where: Mystic, Connecticut
When: February 14 - 15, 2010
With: Dave

Our final stop on our road trip through Connecticut was at the maritime town of Mystic, Connecticut. We were very excited to see the world's largest maritime museum and were sad to find...it was closed. Just our luck for this trip.

However, we still found lots to do in Mystic that made this a fun visit. After all, the maritime culture abounds everywhere, including our welcome at The Inn at Mystic (the harpooner says hello).

Our first stop was to head to Mystic Pizza, the site of the movie of the same name with Julia Roberts. The pizza was really good and the Hollywood memorabilia inside is a show in and of itself.

Even though we couldn't get into the harbor to see all the old ships, the views of the water that surrounds this small town are pretty beautiful.

That night, we had our Valentine's Day meal at this little restaurant in the town of Stonington called Noah's. It was deliciously amazing New England seafood - exactly what we wanted! However, this meal has gone down in the books as one of the best we ever had for one reason. The oysters we had for an appetizer were so incredible that when asked what we'd like for dessert, we ordered another round. To this day, best oysters we've ever had.

The next day, we went to the Mystic Aquarium. The most outstanding thing here was the Beluga whale exhibit. The glass is huge, and they come right up to say hello!

It was an excellent end to an impromptu road trip. I couldn't believe all the things Connecticut had to offer, and I didn't even see it all!
