Where: Rome, Italy

While strolling through Rome, we came upon this little gem. The Piazza Navona looks like another Roman piazza, but actually has a bit more history and charm to it than most. Back in the 1st century AD, it was the home of a massive stadium. Now, where old chariots used to race sit a ton of cafes where people sit and have a glass of wine listening to live musicians play. Artists and vendors line the middle of the piazza and the atmosphere encourages you to slow down and take a breath from your busy Roman day.
Sitting in the middle of it all is the famous Fountain of the Four Rivers by Bernini. Atop it sits the Obelisk of Domitian. The Romans really do love a good obelisk.

We took a rest in the shade to listen to some music next to this fountain at the far north end of the piazza, the Fountain of Neptune.
A lovely little respite in the middle of this bustling city.
